March Madness

I've been out of town the last couple of days...  We went to Speical Olympics Basketball Tournament in Tuscaloosa, AL.  It's always fun and the kids really love it!!  The guys played hard... they won the first game, so we had to wait and play the last game of the day.  What a game!  The guy running the clock had some issues... such as not running the clock when at times.  The other team played way to dirty, and the fowls, of course were not always called as they should have been.

Never believe it when someone is talking about Special Olympics and they say, 'It's only Special Olympics.'  These kids play their heart out... they want to win, they want the gold!  The last game was so intense, I thought I was going to have to leave the gym, but I couldn't leave.  I had to be there.  The parents and I had to be the cheerleaders.  We called to the guys, giving them encouragement, but at the last minute, the clock-guy had a relapse on how to run the clock, the refs said they 'kept' the time in their head and we.....

LOST.  By one point: 28-27......  The boys were silent.  The parents were pissed.  We questioned it all.... and before the officials gave out the medals, they said some ugly things about our parents.  As one parent said, "When your kids are born with disabilities, you have to fight for everything for them."  This is so true.  Our guys played a good, fair game.  So, I have to give out a big salute to them tonight!  Guys, you played a great game!!
